On November 17, 2022, at the Fall Dinner Meeting of the Mathematics Teachers’ Association of Chicago and Vicinity (MTA) held at St. Ignatius College Prep, Marist math teacher Vic Trevino received a special recognition with support from many of his math department colleagues.
The Br. George Wagner Master Teacher Award
Vic Trevino was honored with the Br. George Wagner Master Teacher Award by the MTA. This award is given to outstanding teachers and was named after Br. George Wagner, a Christian brother for 30 years who was instrumental in the Metropolitan Math Club and the MTA. The following accolades were made about Trevino on November 17:
- He gets students excited and motivated about mathematics.
- He is always willing to step up and help out.
- He promotes Catholic values throughout the school.
- He has had a tremendous positive impact on the members of the Marist community.
- He is a role model to the students and faculty at the school.
Along with teaching at Marist for 22 years, Trevino serves as the leader of the Math Department as the Curriculum Coordinator. He is also a soccer coach at Marist.
In 2021, the MTA honored two other Marist math teachers. Jeff Nicholson ’81 received the Distinguished Life Service Award. Sean Maxwell was awarded a certificate recognizing him as a 2020-2021 All-Star. To read about these awards, click here.

Founded in 1967, the Mathematics Teachers’ Association is an organization that helps connect Math teachers in the Chicagoland area. It continues to be a place for math teachers to talk and exchange ideas for classes and department.
