September 9, 1963 marked 60 years since Marist High School opened its doors. On Sunday, September 17, 2023 Marist hosted the 60th Anniversary Mass in celebration of 60 years of Catholic education.
On Sept. 17, the Marist Main Gym transformed into a place of worship filled with current and former Marist staff, parents, alumni, current and former students, and friends from the community to celebrate 60 years of Marist High School. Fr. Tom Hurley ’85 was the presider.
President Larry Tucker ’79 welcomed the crowd with a wonderful call to worship. He asked each current and former faculty member to stand in recognition for their contribution to 60 years of education.
Marist was excited to have five Marist brothers in attendance. Br. John Kachinsky ’80 and Br. Sam Amos (current faculty members) sat alongside Br. Hank Hammer, former Marist HS president, Br. Dan O’Riordan, Provincial and Br, Owen Ormsby, Assistant Provincial.
Many Marist students participated in the liturgy as eucharistic ministers, gift bearers, and alter servers. Not to mention the beautiful music provided by the students in the Marist band and choir alongside cantor Anslee Rainwater.
The readings were provided by alums Br. John Kachinsky ’80, Mrs. Colleen Phelan ’07 and Mr. Jeff Nowak ’91. Br. John and Colleen are also current Marist faculty members.
Many current faculty and staff served as eucharistic ministers, including Principal Meg Dunneback. After mass, Marist hosted a reception in the cafeteria.
Thank you to all who celebrated in the 60th Anniversary Mass. It was a wonderful morning celebrating 60 years of excellence in education at Marist High School. Marist will continue the 60th Anniversary celebrations on December 2, 2023 at A Night of Honor, Glory, and Fame! The evening will include cocktails and seated dinner, silent and live auction, paddle raise, award presentations and live music. The proceeds from the 60th Anniversary celebration will go toward the financial assistance program.
