Marist High School Was Voted “Best Private School”
Marist High School was voted “Best Private School” by readers of the Daily Southtown. The school has made faith, family, and future the pillars of the coed community.
Started by the Marist Brothers in 1963, their commitment to Catholic education and devotion to Mary still serve as guiding principles. Br. Hank Hammer, FMS, serves as the president with several Brothers teaching or holding other roles. Through the years, Marist developed a challenging college preparatory curriculum that serves Chicago-area and suburban students at all academic levels, while keeping its Catholic identity at the forefront of its mission.
Its family atmosphere makes students feel welcome and a variety of support services are offered to ensure success. Students are encouraged to develop skills and talents through the school’s robust offering of co-curricular activities and athletic programs, which garner accolades at the local, state, and national level annually. That family spirit keeps alumni, parents, and grandparents connected to the school through events and programming.
The goal is for graduates to be future-ready by being formed in faith and having had exceptional academic preparation for college and career. Principal Larry Tucker ’79 focuses on a combination of modern space, innovative curriculum, and meaningful technology. Teachers offer authentic, hands-on learning lessons. The school boasts more than 25,000 alumni, who have attended top universities and achieved success in multiple industries.
The school has transformed from its original marshland landscape into a premier 55-acre campus with amenities for today’s students, including Monastery Hall, a 10-lab science wing with a planetarium, which opened in August 2019.
Marist is poised for continued growth and looks to lead Catholic secondary education for “time and eternity.”
